2011 Camp News:
Upper Camp Review Weeks 7 and 8
Weeks 7 and 8 were full of playoffs, all-star games, late nights and later nights!! All of the teams in the basketball and baseball playoffs played with heart, emotion and sportsmanship!! We were very proud to both witness and referee all of the games in upper camp. The participants in the all-star game at lower court basketball gave the crowds a great game to watch.
Twilight night was an incredible success. The night started off on upper court as all of groups 9, 10, and 11 made their way to camp in the early evening. We then had a delicious Bar-B-Que dinner, prepared by the upper camp counselors. After dinner we had a twilight game of baseball on upper field, followed by a few games of capture, and we finished the night with a game of water polo.
Dessert of the night: ice cream lasagna.
Quote of the night: “Smiles are contagious on twilight night”.
The group 12 sleepover was an awesome time for all, as usual! From BBQ to baseball, from man hunt to marshmallows (for s’mores of course), and from braving the elements to breakfast, the 2011 class of group 12 joins the prestigious group of former campers who were brave enough to spend the night sleeping on the island.
Hoping you all have a wonderful school year and we will see you next summer!

Lower Camp Review Weeks 5 and 6
The last couple of weeks have been full of fun: tournaments, visitations, and Color War. The Liberty Bell Classic was an outstanding time had by all campers! Each Camper walked away with an Anglewood ribbon either in a team event or an individual event.
Parents’ day was a huge success. All of the parents were troopers and dealt with the record setting heat. They didn’t back down from the competition at the newcomb court and tried their best to beat their kids, but as usual the kids were better than their parents. A great time was had by all.
Of course the highlight was Color War during week 6. Instead of 3 days of competition, the weather suspended the war for a day and was finished on Friday afternoon. Yet again it came down to the talent competition and the ever popular Anglecross. In the end the Grey team edged out the Blue team for the victory. Both sides showed great sportsmanship and effort and never backed down.

Upper Camp Review Weeks 5 and 6
The last few weeks have been full of games, tournaments, visitations, and war! (Color War that is) The Liberty Bell Classic was a great success! Everyone walked away with an Anglewood ribbon either in a team event or an individual event.
The lake was the most popular place to be during the fishing tournament with record numbers of anxious anglers eager to catch the first, most, or biggest fish!
We were happy to see so many parents, grandparents, and family members during parent’s day. Even though it was hot, the parents put up a good fight on the newcomb and basketball courts!
Color War was an amazing time yet again! Both sides showed great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the three and a half days of Color War. Even though the Grey Team won, the Blue Team exhibited great pride and determination, especially on the upper field during tug-of-war where the Blue Team swept the events; Blue’s lower, middle, and upper camp campers, and all the Blue counselors held on tight and pulled with all their might for the win!!

Middle Camp News (Groups 5, 6, 7, and 8)
The last few weeks of camp have been fun, hot, and memorable…and did I mention hot.
Week four’s Liberty Bell Classic was fun for everyone! Each of the four teams, the Cheese Streaks, Hoagies, Soft Pretzels, and Tastykakes, took first place in one of our four team events. The closing ceremony was memorable as every team member climbed atop the podium to claim their first place ribbon with their respective teams.
Parents Day for Middle Camp was a great success. All of our campers were able to demonstrate their skills and abilities at a variety of activities. The pool allowed campers to show off their swimming skills. The highlight of Parents Day was, as always, our game of Campers vs. Parents newcomb. Thanks to all who participated - it made the day special for all.
Everyone had looked forward to the sixth week featured Color War between the Blue and the Gray teams. After the first two days of competition the Gray team had the lead. Blue rallied the troops for the final day to try and close the gap. They won the upper field races and the tug-o-war. The Talent Show, involves all the campers in skits and singing their team songs. Laughs and silliness entertained everyone, but in the end, the Gray Team was just too strong and they won the Talent Show. The final event of Color War is everybody’s favorite, the Anglecross, which is a ten leg relay race around camp. All races were close with lots of points awarded to both teams. Ultimately the Gray team was victorious and won the 2011 Camp Anglewood Color War. Good sportsmanship ruled the day and fun was had by all.
Games Day has also been exciting. In my last update the Herbert Hoovers had yet to win a Games Day. Not only did they win Games Day week 4 but went back to back with their win in week 5. Week 6 win went to the Thunderbirds. Our basketball and baseball leagues are in full swing and everyone is excited with the possibility of playoffs in the coming weeks.
With just a few weeks left we still have several great events in store for the campers. This week brings our second water day and the Snake Guy. Our last weeks also include our two final tournaments, the Ping Pong Tournament and the Dodgeball Tournament. The campers are also looking forward to the Anglewood Carnival with is bubblegum bubble blowing contest and the pie eating contests. Many campers have been practicing for these events. The competition will be fierce and the fun contagious.

Lower Camp News (Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4)
Lower Camp has definitely found its groove as week 3 was completed and we move into week 4. The older campers are stepping up and showing the way for the younger bunks. "Backboard Newcomb" has become a popular game at the upper court now that a few campers in Bunks 3 and 4 are able to hit the backboard. We had two different winners in the foul shot tournament and the home run derby. Some of the favorites have fallen and the underdogs have come through with the win.
The highlight of week 3 had to be the visit from the Flyers and Bob “The Hound’ Kelly and his fellow staff of skillful coaches. Even though many of the kids did not know who he was, though I’m sure all you parents do, they were still in awe that a Flyer was actually at their camp. Who knows maybe someday an anglewooder will be come the next great flyer.
The much-anticipated Games Day every Friday has seen 3 different winners in the first 3 weeks. The Incredible Invisible People led off week 1 with the win, followed by the Kung Fu Dragons and then the Laser Bombs. The Anglewood Lake Monsters have been in the running each week and almost squeaked out a victory last week. I have a feeling that they are due this week.

Middle Camp News (Groups 5, 6, 7, and 8)
The weeks are flying by and camp is in full swing. All the counselors and junior counselors agree that the campers have had a great summer to date.
Review of Activities for all of Middle Camp:
Our Games Day teams have been in place for a few weeks now with victories by the Funky Monkeys (week 1), the Awesome Alligators of Anglewood (week 2), and the Thunderbirds (week 3). Our fourth team the Herbert Hoovers came in second week 3 and should have a games day victory in the near future. The Foul Shot Tournament during week 2 was a big hit and prizes were awarded to the victors. Last week the Home Run Derby got underway; there were so many homeruns hit by the campers that the Home Run Derby will be completed during week 4. Finally, the Flyers Clinic was a great success. During the clinic all campers had the opportunity to play hockey with Flyers’ Stanley Cup Champion, Bob “The Hound” Kelly.
Review of Activities for Groups 5 & 6:
The Awesome Monsters have a slight lead in the standings in the group 5 and 6 baseball league. The last game was so close that it came down to a game winning homerun that put the Awesome Monsters in first. Groups 5 and 6 love the climbing wall and several campers completed the wall earning 500 Games Day points for their teams. The lake is another favorite for groups 5 and 6, where creature catching and fishing are enjoyed by all. There was even a 19 inch large mouth bass caught last week.
Review of Activities for Groups 7 & 8:
Groups 7 and 8 started their basketball league; our four teams, the Bermuda Triangles, Fuzzy Monkey Dunkers, Terminating Turtles and Slam Dunkers have all shown great skill and teamwork on the court. There was an epic camper versus counselor game of Alcatraz at the lake. The campers were victorious this time but the counselors are ready and waiting for the rematch. We had a handful of “firsts” for some individual campers: first backboards at newcomb and even more first bull’s-eyes at the archery range.
With each week the Middle Camp continues to create more and more memories. We are looking forward to a couple of tournaments, ping pong and dodgeball, as well as a visit from the Snake Guy. But the highlight of week 4 will certainly be our annual Liberty Bell Classic in which the campers will be divided into four teams: the Hoagies, the Soft Pretzels, the Cheese Steaks, and the Tastykakes. Campers will compete for team and individual ribbons in many events including the Broad Street Run Around the Lake, the Dad Vail Regatta Kayak Race and the Big Five Foul Shot Shootout.

Upper Camps Week 3 Recap
As all the campers got back into the swing of things more milestones were reached. The foul shot tournament saw some new competitors. The homerun derby got started but had to be postponed due to the weather. Be on the lookout week 4 for the completion of the derby…Batter Up!!!
We were also visited by Bob “The Hound” Kelly who put on another great clinic for all the campers.
Get your appetites ready for week 4 as the Liberty Bell Classic makes its return to Anglewood. Cheeseteaks, Hoagies, Pretzels and Tastykakes will be all over camp. Go Teams!!

Anglewood News: Bunks 1 and 2
Our first two weeks at Anglewood have been a BLAST ! Bunks 1 and 2 have been busy learning the ropes at camp and making lots of new friends. Then learned where their new cabin and cubbies are when they went on the official camp tour on day one. We learned to play newcomb, fishing in the lake, swim in the pool, and...of course... "worm hunt"! Bunks 1 and 2 have been having non-stop fun! Kayaking is a big hit this year. We are so excited to have many new campers "graduate" to kayaking on their own! Everyone is very impressed! We are looking forward to the weeks to come!

Anglewood News: Bunks 3 and 4
Camp Anglewood got off to a rousing start for bunks 3 and 4. It was great to see so many returning campers in the bunks. The new faces were also a welcome addition to the bunks. They fit right in with Anglewood veterans that we have in bunk 4. In addition to the new campers, we also welcomed two new counselors to bunk 3, Brittany and Steph. Dodgeball was of course the game wanted to be played the most and chanted for the most at lower court. BBQ day went off without a hitch and it was great to see the brand spanking new grills at the BBQ area. The staff in 3 and 4 are looking forward to this summer and can’t wait to see what fun and excitement is in store for the best bunks in camp.

Anglewood News: Bunks 5 and 6
“Time flies when you’re having fun!” One fun packed week of camp already completed in a flash. It was great seeing many familiar faces and even a few new faces added to our close-knit family. Each camper transitioned well from lower to middle camp and the new campers quickly realized how many new friends surround them each day. After the first day of camp orientation and refreshing the rules at each activity, the campers were ready to pick their own teams and compete in multiple activities. The first game of newcomb went on forever because now the campers can backboard and are more skilled with catching and throwing. At the Upper Field, baseball teams were picked and the campers were excited to play our first game on Monday. Like always, a big hit at Lower Court is dodgeball. Ryan Holland (Bunk 6’s Counselor) and I introduced the campers to “prison dodge”, “doctor dodge”, and “sudden death”.
Although the fish were not biting at first, the campers were patient and eventually started hooking bass, catfish, and a few sunnies. Come Friday, Games Day, the campers in bunks 5-8 were assigned to four different teams to compete in relay races, water polo, kayak races, full camp “capture the flag”, and newcomb. The winner of week one was the Funky Monkeys who won a prize for their efforts. We’re sure that each team will win a Games Day during this summer. It was great to see how well each camper worked with his or her new team and everyone got along great.
This year’s campers are smart, friendly, athletic, and just want to have fun. I know this is going to be another great summer at Camp Anglewood and Ryan and I will make sure every camper has a blast and goes home dirty, exhausted, and full of stories from each day.

Anglewood News: Bunks 7 and 8
Bunks 7 and 8 had an exhilarating opening week to the 2011 camp season. Fish were caught, baskets were made, and we even learned a couple new strokes in the pool. Not to mention our very first arts and crafts project. The campers also had a blast participating in newcomb, baseball, boating, archery, and dodgeball. It was certainly a week to remember for bunks 7 and 8, and there are many more memories to come.

Anglewood News: Bunks 9 and 10
Bunks 9 and 10 got off to a fast start under the leadership of their counselors Mike and Sam. basketball teams were picked and out league got underway with teams DIRK and RED DEVILS pulling out to an early lead in the standings; the GUNNERS and the MJ's battled for 3rd place. On Wednesday, Week 1, we had out first bar-b-que with lots of burgers and hot dogs on the new camp grills. On Friday many of our campers got their first taste of Upper Camp Games Day with Bunks 9&10 helping their Upper Camp teams toward the end-of-week team prize.

Anglewood News: Bunks 11 and 12 Weeks 1 and 2 Review
June means two important things to most people, school coming to an end and Camp Anglewood beginning!! As this year’s camp season started old friends caught up and new friends were made. Bunks 11 and 12 were the very first groups to brave the pool on the first day, first thing in the morning. On the baseball field routine singles were stretched into doubles, triples, and home run because of some aggressive base running.
Anglewood teams were picked and named. Be on the lookout for the “Cereal Killers”, “Yugoslavian Unicorns”, “Phantastic Pharmasists”, and “The Elm Street Elves”.
The first BBQ day was a success with the brand new grills. "MMM...MMM..." smells like burgers and dogs!!
There were many firsts here at Anglewood; bull’s eyes, backboards, baskets, and goals. Dams were designed, built, and re-built to allow campers easy access to lower court.
As we more onward and upward to the upcoming weeks there are tournaments, games days, color war, parents day,
twilight night, and a sleepover to look forward to.
