As it did with other public pools in our area, the Montgomery County Health Department (MCHD) asked Camp Anglewood on Tuesday morning, August 16, 2016 to follow standard protocol for commercial pools utilized by a person with a confirmed case of Cryptosporidium (Crypto). The person with the confirmed case last used the Anglewood pool at the end of July. This standard protocol request in no way indicates that the source of the infection was our pool, only that someone with a diagnosed case of Crypto had used the facility.
The protocol for this situation is to close the pool and hyper-chlorinate for an extended period to insure complete pool sanitation. This includes the camp’s pool toys and the campers’ personal water squirters that happened to be at camp when the MCHD arrived. Therefore, to comply with the MCHD’s procedures, our pool will unfortunately be closed for the next few days due to the nature of our facility and the time for high chlorine levels to dissipate to swimming-safe levels after the required sanitizing period. We will make every effort to open it again before the end of the season on Friday and return your water toys as soon as possible. Meanwhile all other camp activities will continue normally.
